Reserve seats from organization licenses

You can reserve seats from organization licenses for specific users and device clients in 10Duke SysAdmin, and release seat reservations.

With a floating license, you can reserve a seat for a user or device client to guarantee them access to the license. This in effect takes one seat out of the floating pool that is shared by other users and device clients. Releasing the reservation returns one seat to the pool.

If a license uses a custom license model, the license model may affect how seat reservations are used. For example, a named-seat license may require that a user or device client has a seat reservation before they can consume the license, or a seat reservation may be created automatically when a user or device client starts consuming the license.

Organization administrators are also able to reserve seats for users and device clients in 10Duke OrgAdmin, as well as block seats from certain users or device clients if needed.

Note that releasing a seat reservation is different from releasing a license seat that is being consumed: the latter ends the user’s or device client’s license lease.

Limitations

If a license uses a custom license model, the license model may define limitations:

  • The number of times you can make a seat reservation from the license may be limited.

  • The licence model may not allow releasing seat reservations. You can override this restriction and release a seat reservation in SysAdmin if needed, for example, to support a customer who made a wrong seat reservation in OrgAdmin.

View seat reservations of an organization license

  1. In the left sidebar, go to ENTITLEMENTS > Organization.

  2. Search and select the organization, and click Confirm.

  3. Select the entitlement that contains the license.

  4. Go to the Licenses tab.

  5. Select the license and select Actions > Manage reservations. On the side panel that opens:

    • The top section shows information on the license. The header shows the total number of seats in the license, and the number of unreserved and reserved seats. The section shows information on the license’s validity and whether it’s active.

    • The Reserve/release seats for users section shows a list of users who have access to this license, and whether they have a seat reservation.

    • The Reserve/release seats for device clients section shows a list of device clients that have access to this license, and whether they have a seat reservation.

  6. To filter the lists:

    • In Reserved, select Yes to only show users or device clients that have a seat reservation, or No to only show ones that don’t have a reservation.

    • Filter users and device clients using the column header fields. You can filter users by their contact email address, and device clients by the device client’s name and OAuth client ID. You can also filter with a partial value.

Reserve or release seats from an organization license

  1. Go to the seat reservations side panel as described above.

  2. Go to the Reserve/release seats section for either users or device clients.

  3. Next to a user or device client, click Reserve seat to reserve them a seat, or Release seat to release the reservation.

If the list shows a notification text that the license model doesn’t allow releasing seat reservations, enable the toggle if you want to override the restriction and release a seat reservation anyway.
