Authorize devices to use organization licenses

When you’re using device-based licensing, you authorize devices to consume an organization’s licenses by using device groups.

In an organization’s entitlement, define which groups are authorized to access the licenses. Client applications can consume the licenses when they’re run on devices that have an access key from those device groups.

See also the overview of using device groups and access keys for device-based licensing.

View the authorized device groups in an entitlement

  1. In the left sidebar, go to ENTITLEMENTS > Organization.

  2. Click Change organization, search and select the organization, and click Confirm.

    The organization’s entitlements table opens.

  3. Select the entitlement whose license authorization you want to view.

  4. Go to the Authorized consumers > Device groups tab.

The table shows all of the organization’s device groups.

Check the Has access column to see which groups are authorized to access licenses in this entitlement.

Authorize device groups to consume licenses

Before you start:

  • Make sure you have the device groups that you want to grant access to.

To authorize device groups to access licenses in an entitlement:

  1. Go to an entitlement’s Authorized consumers > Device groups tab as described above.

  2. Select the device groups and select Actions > Grant access.

Next steps:

Remove device groups’ access to licenses

When you remove a device group’s authorization to an entitlement’s licenses, devices that use access keys in the group lose access to the licenses.

To remove authorization from device groups to an entitlement:

  1. Go to an entitlement’s Authorized consumers > Device groups tab as described above.

  2. Select the device groups and select Actions > Revoke access.

If a client application on a device is currently consuming a license that it no longer has access to, the application is able to continue consuming the license until the license lease expires or the application tries to refresh the lease, whichever comes first.
